Week 11 Story- Clay

 Clay

There was once two boys who came across a ball of clay that had a message attached to it. In the message it stated whoever came across it had the opportunity to create a new world. Though the instructions stated the new world must be created by two people. The two boys filled with excitement immediately started coming up with ideas of how they wanted to shape this new world.

One of the boys was named Thomas, he was very outgoing and loved sports. In school he was well known for his athletic ability and never struggled to make friends. The other boy was named Christopher, who grew up with Thomas but struggled to make friends, though he excelled in every subject at school.

When the two boys began telling one another their ideas for the new world they started disagreeing. Things like how long students should be in school for or what the laws of the land would be, started creating arguments between them. They began to realize even though they had been friends for years there were things they had never known about one another.

As they began learning more and more about each other, they started to clear up their arguments on how the new world should look and run. Thomas and Christopher took their time and listened to what one another had to say.

After their discussion was over they had formulated a list of laws and ideas of how their new world would look and operate. They were satisfied with themselves and felt accomplished. With this new pride they began forming the clay into their new world. Slowly but surely the two boys had created a place they both could be proud of. Each of their ideas could be seen throughout the new world.

As the two boys split paths and headed to their homes they looked at one another and stated, “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

Author's Notes
I created this story based of the principles and messages that could be seen in the short stories of Coyote and the Eagle. These two animals very different from one another were able to come together and formulate ideas that would benefit the both of them in the new world. I wanted my message to stay the same. In these ever uncertain times and as the American people become so polarized we must never forget what makes this country great, the people in it. We must listen to one another and share thoughts and ideas to create a world prosperous of growth and full of love.

  1. Hi Cade!

I like the idea of two boys being responsible for creating a new world from a ball of clay. Your juxtaposition of Thomas and Christopher was great work, and it really shows how the world is today. Everyone can have different views, ideas, and values, but we all need to come together to make a better society for all. The last line is such a valuable lesson. Pride can get in the way when people are working towards a goal, wanting to do everything themselves and be the boss. However, sometimes we need to work together in order to create a true success.

  2. Hi Cade! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story! I think you did a good job writing and the message genuinely made me take a step back and look at the the things you mentioned in the author's note, like the polarization of America. I feel like going back to stories like these is a helpful reminder that when we work together we can do great things.

  3. Hi Cade, your author's note for this story was really touching, and I can totally agree with what you said. the world is already so crazy this year and everybody could use a little bit of kindness in their day. I think your story of the 2 boys coming together and working through their issues is very sweet. I like that young boys were able to work past the issues themselves and you didn't bring in any other characters.
