Week 9 Story- Two Brothers

Two Brothers

There was once two brothers who loved to play tricks on one another. The older brothers name was Billy and the younger brothers name was Jimmy. They competed with each other for everything wether it was on the playing field or in the classroom.

One day they decided they had tricked each other too much and it was time to join forces and play games with their parents. They started off the day by switching all the cereals into different boxes. So no matter what box you choose the correct cereal would not be in it. They knew this would be funny, but they needed something that would top all the other pranks they had done to each other growing up.

Billy had just turned 18 and Jimmy was 17, knowing Billy could actually go to jail now they decided they would trick their parents into thinking Billy had been arrested. That night the two boys went out with friends. Along the way they pulled over and Jimmy called his Dad saying Billy had been arrested. Very shocked and upset their father told Jimmy to not worry about it and he would handle it. Their father waited knowing he would get a call from Billy to come bail him out.

Billy waited about 45 minutes to call his dad. Though instead he had pre recorded a voice so it sounded like he would be receiving a call from the local county jail. Their father answered immediately knowing it would be about Billy. As soon as he answered the machine recording said, "Would you like to receive a collect call from Sacramento County jail?" Their father replied with a mere, "Sure" and waited for the click. The two boys were dying trying to hold their laughter in. Billy worked up a good act, making sure the tears and sniffles were noticed. Billy stated, "Dad I got in some trouble, I need you to come bail me out." Their father being the loving parent said he would do it but there would be severe consequences.

Knowing their father would be leaving the house soon. The two boys started up their car and speed home. They waited silently in their driveway knowing their father would have to come out that way to head to the county jail.

A few moments passed and the garage door rose and to their father's amazement his two boys were standing in his driveway dying with laughter.

His stomach dropped with relief, but at the same time was upset with what his boys had done to him. This would be the start of the prank wars.

Author's Notes

I based this story off of Brer Rabbit's The Calamus Root. Within this story the Brer Rabbit tricks Brer Fox. The series of revenge and tricks made me want to turn this story into something we could see now a days. The two brothers teaming up symbolized the rabbits teaming up against the fox which in this story is their father. The. Brer Rabbit stories are a series of revenge and tricks and within my own story we all know parents always end up the winners. Their father could easily play an even better trick on the two boys when they are least expecting it.

  1. Cade, I liked your retelling of the Brer Rabbit story! I grew up reading Brer Rabbit tales and I always think they're really cute. I liked how you established the relationship of the two brothers and the dad - I think it would be fun if you wrote more stories with the same characters! I also think it could be a cool opportunity to work on differentiating the characters of the two brothers - are they more similar like the Weasley twins or do they have distinct personalities? Overall, good job!

  2. Hi Cade!
I really lied your story. I think it was very creative of you to switch the story to be about two brother instead of the animals. I think that creates a very accurate representation of how life is like with siblings. It can get very competitive with siblings and Im sure even more so as a boy with sports so I really liked that you connected it to that.
