Introduction to Cade Posner... a future firefighter

Hey y'all my name is Cade Posner and I am currently a junior here at The University of Oklahoma. I am majoring in Administrative Leadership and minoring in Health and Exercise Science. I plan on graduating at the end of this year (a year early) due to the amount of classes I have been able to fit into my schedule as well as taking summer classes. After graduation I plan on becoming a firefighter back in my home state of California. I am from a town located about twenty minutes outside of Sacramento in Northern California. Aside from school I love spending my time in the outdoors whether it be through sports or just for fun. I am currently a part of the Baseball team here at OU and have been since the beginning of my sophomore year. Growing up in California I was exposed to many outdoor activities such as snowboarding, paddle boarding, kayaking, and hiking at a young age. These activities have stuck with me and during my time spent at home due to the Coronavirus I was able to get back into these hobbies. Many of my days this past Spring/Summer were spent on the water boating, wake surfing, and paddle boarding. One of the best parts about moving to the south for college is the food. I am a huge BBQ fan and during my time in this part of the country I have been able to enjoy some world famous BBQ restaurants and stands. Besides food I am also a huge fan of movies. Some that top my list are Moneyball, War Dogs, Wolf of Wall Street, and Rudy. I have never taken a course like this before with so much freedom when it comes to writing. I am looking forward to learning new writing techniques and overall having a fun semester!

  1. Hi Cade! First off, I'm sooo jealous you're home is California! I've always wanted to go! Secondly, so many of my guy friends from my high school are on the OU baseball team (I went to Westmoore in Moore Oklahoma) so small world! I'm also I a big outdoors activity person, I especially love hiking and exploring which is why I want to travel to more states in the west because the mountains there are incredible! Oklahoma mountains are really only hills, but I take what I can get.. I'm also a huge movie person! Especially all things superhero related but thats just because I'm a nerd so there's that. But anyway, I'm glad I got to read your intro!

  2. What's up Cade!

Props to you for finishing college in only three years, that is an incredible accomplishment, and the fact that you are planning on saving people's lives after is just as incredible. I've only been to California two times and I am jealous that you live there. Your choices of movies are top notch and I can just tell you're and cool dude. I hope you have a great rest of your semester!

    Best,
    Payton

  3. Hi Cade!
I think it's really admirable that you're intending to become a firefighter! One of my uncles spent over twenty years working for the fire department, so I've learned about some of the great things you firefighters do from his stories. I actually grew up in California too (though Southern rather than Northern), so I know California always needs more firefighters with all the dry spells California tends to get.

  5. How great that you want to become a firefighter, Cade! My husband is a meteorologist (retired) and he works with our local volunteer fire department on weather/wind stuff and he's also their videographer when they do training exercises burning down an old abandoned house, etc. All the science that goes into it is seriously amazing, and we have both learned a lot about that world since we moved to this really rural area where the volunteer fire department is the key to everyone's safety. Maybe you can use this class to learn about the fire gods and goddesses around the world like Agni from India (link) or the fire goddess Pele from Hawaii (link)... fire is a huge part of human culture, and also one of the world's dangers, which means there are stories about it all over.

  6. Hey Cade!

It’s nice to meet you! That’s awesome that you’re from California. I’ve never been, but I would really like to go someday soon. That’s really neat that you’ve been able to try out so many outdoor activities and sports. I really enjoy wake surfing too, and I try to do it as much as I can. My cousin Brylie Ware played on the baseball team a couple of years ago, so maybe you’d know him.

    Good luck this semester!

  7. Hi Cade! Nice to meet you! I watched Moneyball for what feels like the 100th time earlier this week. Such a great movie. Honestly, I don't know that much about baseball (I was always more of a basketball fan) but that movie made me appreciate the sport a lot more! Everybody's already said this, but I also think it's pretty cool that you're from California. Some of my friends go to school out there and they love it! But you're totally right, BBQ is a huge perk of living in this part of the country. Congrats on graduating early, that's a huge accomplishment. Good luck with the rest of the class!

  9. Hey Cade!

That's so cool that you've come all the way from California to Oklahoma. I've actually considered to moving to California to work with Disney at some point after I graduate. I'm honestly jealous you got to go water boating, wake surfing, and paddleboarding during the summer. I was hardly around to go anywhere during the pandemic (I think we left one time to go to Colorado for the 4th of July) so being able to go to the beach or the lake and do all sorts of activities sounds really fun. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work!

  10. Hi Cade! First, I think it is very commendable that you want to go back home and become a firefighter, especially a firefighter in California! Second, it sounds like you have real passion for the outdoors and I would encourage you to explore that passion. I hope you are having a good semester and congratulations on graduating early! That is another commendable feat!

  11. Hey Cade- what a culture shock it must've been to move from the west coast to the middle of the country. I can tell you spend a lot of time in the water whenever you're home and i'm definitely jealous. I grew up in OK so I always get super excited to plan a trip to the beach. I'm an HES major (5th year unfortunately haha) and I really do love the program so much. But i'm sure how much it differs when you have it has a minor? I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in OK before graduating!!

  12. Hey, Cade

Great job in accelerating your college classes and overall career! It is always great to hear the compassion people have for their majors and interests, and it clearly shows when you finish as quickly as you are. You are very adventurous as well! Something unlike me, but the way you explained your hobbies - like kayaking - it made me want to pick it up as well. Clearly you have a lot of interest in what you do and with the way you are handling it and planning out your life, you will have lots of time for your career and hobbies as well. Great job and I look forward to reading your stories :)!

  13. Hi Cade! Wow, it's pretty awesome that you have your future set up already! Congratulations on your graduation a year early as well, that's very hard to do in my opinion. I'm a little jealous that you're from California though, I have always wanted to visit that state one day! I am a major in health and exercise science here at OU so I think it's neat you're minoring in this degree. It is not an easy thing for sure but you've managed to accomplish everything you have set your mind to, including becoming a firefighter in the future. Anyways, it was really nice to meet you and good luck in your future endeavors!

  14. Hi Cade. I loved reading your post. It is incredible that you have your future set up for yourself already. It is always good to be prepared and to have a plan. It is so cool you are from California and attend OU. I am from Colorado so I am an out of state student as well. You seem to be very adventurous and prepared for the real world. I enjoyed reading your post and good luck on your finals.
